What is it?

Books by Mail is a new service from Seymour Library that will deliver books and some media (audiobooks and DVDs) to homebound patrons. This service is offered to any Seymour Library card holder who is not able to come in to the library because of a temporary or permanent disability and satisfies the eligibility criteria.

Who can sign up?

You are eligible for the service if:

  1. You have a current Seymour Library card
  2. You live in the Auburn Enlarged City School District area
  3. You meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Senior citizen non-driver 
  • You have a long term illness or disability that does not allow you to travel to the library 
  • You have a short term illness or disability that does not allow you to travel to the library with recovery lasting at least six weeks
How do I sign up?

You must print out, complete, and mail (or have someone drop off) the Books By Mail application form available at the library or here or fill out the online application.

The service is limited. If enrollment is full at the time you apply, we will notify you and place you on a waiting list.

How do I choose what I want to borrow?

Once your application has been approved, one of our outreach liaisons will call you to discuss your preferences and place requests. You can also look up and request materials through our online catalog available at www.seymourlibrary.org (simply use the search bar at the top of the page or click on My Account).

You may select up to 3 print and 3 media materials each month. Materials available to borrow include books, audiobooks, playaways, and DVDs.

Library staff can also provide you with instructions and guidance on how to use our digital services such as Hoopla and Libby for accessing eBooks, audiobooks and movies.

When will I get my items?

Your items will be delivered monthly. All packages will be mailed the first full week of each month. Items may be renewed but you are not allowed more than 3 books and 3 media materials in total each month.

Although applications can be submitted at any time, applications must be received by the fifteenth to receive a package the following month. Ex. Applications submitted by January 15 will receive a package in February. Applications submitted January 16 will receive a package in March.
