Kali Filipino Martial Arts Workshop for Kids

In this workshop, held on Saturday, June 10 at 2:30pm, Guro Annie will showcase a demo and lead participants in basic techniques of Kali, Filipino Martial Arts. Participants will be using foam pool noodles, which will be provided. Designed for ages 8-12, but those 8+ are welcome to join in.
Space is limited. Please register in the Family Space or by calling the library at 315-252-2571.
Kali is a system of martial arts from the Philippines, known for employing rattan sticks, swords and other tools, as well as empty hand, kicking and grappling techniques. Learn highly effective striking and self-defense, while honing coordination, building awareness and improving fitness.
Guro Annie Sheng is a certified instructor of Kali, Filipino Martial Arts. She has trained in the mainland U.S., Hawai'i, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines. She teaches classes, seminars and private lessons. Her sessions promote bodily conditioning, physical and mental strength, assertive action and essential responses to danger.

Do you love local history? Join Auburn HistoryForge!
Auburn HistoryForge is an online interactive database that maps information from the censuses of Auburn, NY, onto historical map layers. Residents and historians can use this powerful search engine to explore the buildings, neighborhoods, individuals, and families of early 20th-century Auburn.
Interested volunteers can join any of the following transcription training sessions: Wednesday, May 24, June 21, and July 26 at 1 pm in Seymour Library’s IDEA Lab.
Volunteers need to attend one session, where they will learn how to transcribe census records for Auburn HistoryForge. Current volunteers are also invited to join the session for in-person transcribing. It’s fun, informative and contributes to our understanding of today’s Auburn by understanding its past.
