Seymour Public Library District has two full-time librarian positions and one part-time paraprofessional position available. Located in downtown Auburn, NY, the library is housed in a beautiful historic building undergoing major renovations.

Please note, these are competitive civil service positions for Librarian I, Librarian III, and Library Associate. The incumbent will be required to take the appropriate civil service exam associated with the position and must meet the minimum requirements.

Director, Family & Community Engagement Librarian (Librarian I)

Seymour Library seeks a librarian whose talents, knowledge and customer service skills can bring the services of our new Family Space to the next level. A passion for children’s literature and experience working with youth (specifically ages birth through age 12) is essential.   Interest and experience creating and supporting STEAM programming for children and families is highly desirable.  Recent graduates from an ALA-accredited master’s degree program are encouraged to apply.

Director, Reader & Information Services Librarian (Librarian III)

Requirements for Librarian position include:

Seymour Library seeks creative, innovative and energetic leaders to apply for the Director of Reader & Information Services position.  This has oversight of library print and digital collections, and special collections located in the History Discovery Center and the IDEA Lab.  In addition to overseeing collection management, the R&I Services librarian develops reader’s advisory services and collaborates with all staff to help library customers find their next great read. A minimum of four years professional experience preferred. 

  • MLIS from an ALA accredited graduate program.  
  • NYS Public Librarian Certificate at time of hire
  • Knowledge of current publishing trends and popular authors
  • Knowledge of current library trends
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and devotion to hospitality in public service
  • Highly collaborative and flexible

Library Associate (part-time, includes evening and weekend hours)

This paraprofessional position (20-30 hours/week) assists library customers, provides tech help and solves problems at the point of need.  Library Associates rotate through several service points that all require excellent customer service skills.  In addition to public facing service points, Library Associates also work behind the scenes to process ILLs, shelve materials, and develop/prepare displays.  

Requirements for Library Associate position include:

  • Associates degree with major coursework in Liberal Arts, Library Information Systems, or related field; AND at least one (1) year of full-time paraprofessional library experience or two (2) years of increasingly responsible full-time customer public service experience; OR
  • Completion of a minimum of one (1) year coursework in Liberal Arts, Library Information Systems, or related field; AND at least two (2) years for full-time paraprofessional library experience or three (3) years of increasingly responsible full-time customer public service experience.
