Nature in Verse: 2025 Poetry Contest

Seymour Library, in partnership with The Resting Soul and The Friends of Seymour Library, is holding its 1st poetry contest, Nature in Verse.
Participants are invited to write a haiku or short poem (no longer than 12 lines) and may submit up to 3 poems.
The theme of the poetry contest is nature.
Poems should focus on one of the four following nature sites in Cayuga County:

- Cayuga Community College Nature Trail
- Emerson Park/Owasco Lake
- Hoopes Park
- Montezuma Wildlife Refuge
Submission Deadline: Thursday, March 27
Submissions will be judged in three groups: children (1st through 7th grade), teens (8th through 12th grade) and adults (19+). Participants must include their name, address, phone number, email, and age on each poem submitted.
Poems can be submitted in person at Seymour Library (176 Genesee Street, Auburn, NY 13021), by mail (ATTN: Poetry Contest Committee), or emailed to seymourlibrary@seymourlib.org.
There is no entry fee to participate.
Winners will be announced on Thursday, April 10 and invited to read their poems at Seymour Library’s Poetry Open Mic Night on Thursday, April 24 at 6 pm.
- 1st Place Winners in each category will be published on the library’s website, in the Citizen newspaper, and will receive a $20 Amazon gift card.
- 2nd Place Winners in each category will be published on the library’s website and will receive a $10 Amazon gift card.
