Thank you for sharing the library love

Sharing the library love was like peanut butter and jelly, or as Forrest Gump would say, like peas and carrots. Well, we all know life is like a box of chocolates, and you never know what you will get! Our library love? Completely unexpected and totally appreciated.

95 Love Notes & Counting!

From Facebook to Instagram, comments, messages, and post-it notes GALORE, everyone from old to young showered us with love. The soft, squishy kind that makes a long day that much better. We had a total of 95 love notes.

Here are some of our favorite quotes from our wall of love: filled with your library stories, your favorite memories, or things and people that make the library and the world a better place.

Come See the Wall!

A wall of Post-it notes, thank you to everyone who stopped to share special memories@

We could go on and on with so many fantastic notes! If you have the time to stop by during the next couple of weeks, we will leave the Library Love Story up a little longer.

But it wasn’t just love notes; Teri shared a memory from when she was 12 years old! This was fascinating, and perhaps other long-time patrons will remember this as well! Read on:

“I remember back in the day when the rule was that you had to be 12 years old before you could use the “upstairs library”.  I remember being so excited and nervous on my first trip “upstairs”.  I stood in the middle of the room (the one with the fireplace, where fiction starts with A on the left) and looked around in awe and thought “Now I can read all of these books!!  Where should I start??”  I don’t remember what I checked out first, but I DO remember starting with the As and choosing books that appealed to 12-year-old me.

FYI – when Seymour Library first opened its doors on Genesee Street, it was what is called a “closed stack” library, which meant that patrons would come in and request the books they wanted. The public was not permitted in the stacks, so the librarians would then go into the stacks (the area with the metal bookcases and glass floors) to retrieve the books. Nowadays, the upstairs section is open to all! Young and old, if you’re willing to climb a flight of stairs, you are welcome to explore.

Things have certainly changed over the years, 150 to be exact, but we’re still serving our community, and will continue to do so! Thank you for sharing your stories. Come check out some books!
