The History Discovery Center offers in-person assistance with local history and genealogy research.

For out-of-room research assistance, contact us by phone, email or complete the Research Request Form; and mail it to:

Please note: a limited amount of staff research can be conducted for requests via phone, email or mail. For more extensive research requests, a $15/hour research fee will apply.

Images and other content reproduced from the collections of the Seymour Library’s History Discovery Center are for viewing, research, and personal use only.

Permission for commercial use or any publication, manipulation, display or distribution must be pre-approved by the Seymour Library.

In the case of copyrighted materials, it is the responsibility of the patron to abide by United States Copyright Law, Title 17 which states that copyrighted materials may not be used “for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.”

Use of any images should include the credit line: “Courtesy of the Seymour Public Library, Auburn, NY.”


Local History

The History Discovery Center offers a variety of materials detailing the local history. Our local history collection includes special collections on the Auburn Correctional Facility and Harriet Tubman. Our staff is ready to assist you with your research.

Genealogy

The History Discovery Center offers a variety of materials to help you on your genealogical journey. Please keep in mind that you should come prepared on your visit. Have the names and dates (birthdays, weddings, and deaths) of the family that your are researching ready. Remember when visiting to ask staff for assistance with accessing materials.
