After Hours Lecture Serie

The library’s After Hours Lecture series is back this fall!

  • Discover the connection between the Erie Canal and the Underground Railroad with Derrick Pratt, Director of Education & Public Programs at the Erie Canal Museum, on Tuesday, September 12 at 7 pm
  • Learn about the impact of the First Amendment and freedom of press on your everyday life with Roy Gutterman, Newhouse professor and director of the Tully Center of Free Speech, on Tuesday, October 3 at 7 pm
  • Explore the James Webb Telescope, view images, and learn about its operation with Jim Rienhardt, NASA/JLP Solar System Ambassador, on Thursday, October 26 at 6:30 pm.

Black Voices Thought and Action

Join us at the library for the second installment of Black Thought, Voices, and Action, a film and discussion series facilitated by William E. Berry, Jr. Featured films will focus on topics of social reform and racial justice.  

  • Thursday, September 7 at 6:30 pm: Mamie Till-Mobley: Educator & Activist
  • Thursday, September 21 at 6:30 pm: Bryan Stevenson: Lawyer, Social Justice Activist, & Law Professor
  • Thursday, September 28 at 6:30 pm: The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee

Music in the Stacks

Music in the Stacks

New this fall- Music in the Stacks! Take a break from the hustle and bustle and enjoy an evening of music and refreshments at the library.

  • Tuesday, September 19 at 7 pm features classical guitarist, Joel Kane. Joel will perform a selection of classical guitar compositions from Andres Segovia’s “The Guitar and I”, also, works by Beethoven, Bach, and others.
  • Thursday, October 19 at 6:30 pm will showcase the talented, Christopher Molloy. Christopher will provide a mix of modern hits from Lady Gaga to Metallica– all on the electric harp! Stop by for an electrifying evening of music.

Workshops & Classes

Discover a new hobby or interest, learn a skill, or explore community resources during these upcoming classes and workshops held at Seymour Library. Please call the library at 315-252-2571 to register.  

  • 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s: Learn about 10 common warning signs and what to watch for in yourself and others on Wednesday, September 20 at 1 pm with a representative from the Alzheimer’s Association. Topics include: typical age-related changes, warning signs of Alzheimer’s, how to approach someone about memory concerns, early detection and the benefits of a diagnosis, the diagnostic process and Alzheimer’s Association resources. 
  • Mah Jongg for Beginners: Learn the basics of how to play Mah Jongg during this three session workshop with Deb English on Monday, September 11, 18, & October 2 from 12 to 2 pm in Seymour Library’s IDEA Lab. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions.
