Leaf, Stem, Roots: A Plant & Gardening Series
Calling all plant lovers! Connect with fellow plant enthusiasts during this new gardening-themed workshop and lecture series designed for all skill levels. This free series is made possible by the Friends of Seymour Library.
DIY Plant Extravaganza
Saturday, March 23 at 11 am and 2 pm
Not only is March National Craft Month, but spring is right around the corner! Celebrate all things GREEN with a plant-themed afternoon of DIY. Decorate a clay flower pot, create a macrame plant hanger, and design a paper plant! Participants can register for either the 11 am or 2 pm session. For adults and teens. An Introduction to the World of Orchids and Their Care
Thursday, March 28 at 6 pm
Learn the basics of orchid care with Carol Bayles, President and Show Chair of the Southern Tier Orchid Society. This presentation will provide an overview of the orchid family, with emphasis on popular orchids. Receive useful tips, including how much to water your orchid, the perfect light and temperature to help it thrive, when to repot, and more! No registration required.
Growing Healthy Soil & Nutritious Food
Thursday, April 18 at 6 pm
Explore permaculture and regenerative agriculture with Erin and Peter Konuma. Learn how those practices are implemented on their no-till, human-powered micro-farm, Silver Tree Forest. No registration required.

Curious about those miniature trees growing in pots? Explore the world of bonsai with Tom Johnson, VP of the Finger Lakes Bonsai Society. Learn about what bonsai are, their history, and how they’re grown. Discover how you too can start your own bonsai hobby, including tips and techniques for bonsai care and development. Orchids Around New York State

Discover orchids native to New York State with David DuBois, Land Steward at Baltimore Woods Nature Center. Receive an overview of native orchids, including where they can be found and threats to the species.
Container Gardening Workshop
Tuesday, June 11 at 7 pm
No yard? No problem. During this fun hands-on workshop, create your own container garden with Lisa Woodruff, Horticulture Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County. Seed Library Grand Opening
Seymour Library in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County will be launching our new Seed Library this spring! Participants can select a max of 10 seed packets from a variety of flower, food, and herb seeds. You do not need a library card to participate!
Join us for our grand opening on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 pm. Browse the new seed library, enjoy refreshments provided by the Friends of Seymour Library and get an update on Seymour Library’s 2024 garden plans. A representative from the Cornell Cooperative Extension will be available to answer your gardening questions. Stay-tuned for more information!
Garden DIY for Children & Teens
Bring your imagination to these hands-on programs- from an Earth Day LEGO Challenge to plant-themed DIY (grass buddies, macrame, & more)! Don’t forget to visit the Family Space throughout the month and check out our furry Grass Caterpillar! How long will our caterpillar grow before he needs a haircut?! No registration required for these free programs.
LEGO Club: Earth Day Challenge

Explore your creativity with LEGO challenges and games during the library’s new LEGO Club! Accept our Earth Day building challenge and design your own creation from your imagination. The library will provide all the LEGO bricks. Designed for ages 6 and up, but all ages are welcome.
Storytime Crafters: Grass Buddies

Celebrate Earth Day and spring with a Grass Buddy craft and storytime. Plant a grass buddy. As it grows, give it a haircut and watch it grow again. All ages welcome!
Teen Crafternoon
Saturday, April 27 at 1 pm
Celebrate spring by decorating a clay pot and creating a macrame plant hanger to take home. Designed for ages 12 and up.
