Digital Memories Lab -- Photo Collage. Connect, Preserve. Share. The Digital Memories Lab at Seymour Library.

Joining us for this blog is Mary Beth Nezami, who has been coming in on her afternoons to digitize family videos at the Digital Memories Lab at Seymour Library. This is Mary Beth’s fourth visit to the Mary Van Sickle Wait History Discovery Center, and she usually comes in after work with her collection of VHS tapes filled with family memories.

Did you find the process easy?

No, she confides, “I was technically challenged and needed help at first.” But during this interview, Mary Beth is a pro! She was recording her VHS tapes onto a USB drive she had brought along. She then remarked that our staff has been extremely, helpful!

Is there a special memory that you want to share with us? A moment that stands out?

For Mary Beth, this was the first birthday of her oldest child! “It was very special,” so special, that Mary Beth digitized the entire party, which was a couple of hours long. “To me, so many people were in that video,” she chimes in, “it was a joyful occasion.”  Her daughter is now 37 years old!

Mary Beth’s final thoughts and remarks:

Thank you to Lin for being very helpful! I am still new to this but as I go along and learn more, I may have more feedback!

Mary Beth was wondering how long this service will be available. In response, we let her know, that as long as the technology is relevant, the Digital Memories Lab will be a service the HDC provides.  After hearing this, she commented, “The cost of this service elsewhere is expensive.”

This is the value of your library, working for you! ~
