Looking for some activities to do together as a family over winter break? Seymour Library’s Family Space has you covered with hands-on craft activities, STEAM programs, LEGO challenges, Pokémon Club, and a Pokémon-themed scavenger hunt!

Drop in each day for a different craft activity or building challenge. No registration is required. Don’t forget our weekly storytimes or check out the LEGO Robot display designed by children’s book author and toy designer David Kirk.

Here is your day-by-day breakdown of 2024 Winter Break in the Family Space. All of the programs are free!

Saturday, February 17:

2:30 pm: STEAM: Winter Magic

Kick off Winter Break with a fun hands-on STEAM experiment. Create a secret snowflake & winter hat design and watch them magically appear. Then watch a snowstorm in a jar demonstration. For ages 6 and up, but all ages welcome. Registration required. Please call the library at 315-252-2571 or stop by the Family Space to register.



Monday, February 19:

All Day Drop-in Activity: Get Building!

Complete a series of building challenges using different materials. The only thing required is your imagination! 

11 am: IMAGINE Storytime 

Families will engage in stories, songs, and movement together during this fun and interactive storytime all about unicorns! The magic continues after storytime with a unicorn-themed craft. For ages 2 to 5, but all ages are welcome. No registration is required. 

4 pm: LEGO Club: Robot Challenge

Explore your creativity with LEGO challenges and games during the library’s new LEGO Club! Accept a building challenge and design your own creation. This month use your imagination to design a LEGO robot! LEGO bricks provided. For ages 6 and up, but all ages are welcome. No registration is required.


Tuesday, February 20:

All Day Drop-in Activity: Winter Crafts

Get crafty and create a penguin or snowman wobbler. These fun crafts wiggle from side to side! 

11 am: Little Wigglers

Shake those wiggles out during this storytime designed for toddlers and their families. Explore stories, songs, and movement together! No registration is required. 



Wednesday, February 21:

All Day Drop-in Activity: Pokémon Craft Extravaganza

Calling all Pokémon fans! This Winter Break daily drop-in features two different Pokémon-themed crafts. Don’t forget to participate in our Pokémon scavenger hunt which will be going on throughout the month of February! 

11 am: Books & Babies

Bring your little ones to this lap-sit storytime for newborns (0 to 18 months). This special storytime focuses on encouraging early literacy skills through books, songs, movement, and discovery. No registration is required.

4 pm: Pokémon Club

Meet fellow Pokémon trainers while discovering all things Pokémon! Each month we will complete different Pokémon activities. Bring your own Pokémon Trading Cards, or borrow some from the library. For ages 7 and up, but all ages are welcome! No registration is required.


Thursday, February 22:

Friday, February 23:

We need your help with our latest Stick Together poster! Add stickers to this fun winter-themed sticker puzzle! Only teamwork will help reveal the image. 


Saturday, February 24:

11 am: STEAM Storytime

Come listen to some stories about Yetis, also known as Abominable Snowmen. Use your creative thinking to design a yeti cave out of marshmallows and toothpicks, try walking in some yeti-sized feet, and make some foot-size comparisons. All ages are welcome! No registration is required. 


Family Fun at Home

For some family fun at home, check out the library’s game collections, which include favorites like Connect 4, Jenga, Candy Land, and Don’t Break the Ice. All these games and more can be checked out to any cardholder in the Finger Lakes Library System. 

Plan a movie night using one of the library’s streaming services! Both Kanopy and Hoopla offer a selection of family-friendly films, plus fun storytime read-aloud videos. Watch and listen as your favorite storybooks come to life. Do you want to know more? Learn how to explore Kanopy, Hoopla, and more digital platforms!

Kanopy and Hoopla are available to in-district Seymour Library cardholders.  

Spend a cold winter afternoon baking together with one of the library’s themed cake pans. Choose from a fun variety of cake pans including a guitar, a giant cupcake, a teddy bear, dinosaur, Elsa from Frozen, and more. We also have cookie cutters!

Or check out one of the library’s Learning Backpacks for some at-home hands-on exploration! Each backpack contains books and activities centered around a different theme. Be the first to borrow one of our new Learning Backpacks featuring pets, colors, construction, the five senses, and American Sign Language.
